Round the corner from Old Trafford football stadium on Railway Road. There’s a little bit of filtered permeability that’s just become a little brighter, courtesy of rather wonderful Gorgeous Gorse Hill and local artist Caroline Daly. As you can see below, the bollards feature bikes and bike components, in-line with their purpose.
The filtered permeability is part of a quiet route, running parallel to the A56 Chester Road. It connects up to Stretford town centre and The Bridgewater Way near Watersmeet and emerges onto Matt Busby Way near Old Trafford football stadium. From there, it’s possible to ride on a mostly traffic free route to Salford Quays and MediaCityUK, or cross over Chester Road and onto Talbot Road, which is a marginally better route into Manchester.
Taken from Google Street View, you can see how Railway Road looked before it was made passable to bikes. Previously, it was necessary to mount the pavement to bypass the rather high double curb.
